Edward Baker MD, MPH is a health policy professor and former director of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Previously, he served as Assistant Surgeon General and Director of CDC’s Public Health Practice Program Office, leading creation of Public Health Leadership Institutes, the Information Network for Public Health Officials, the Public Health Training Network, and the Health Alert Network.

Perry Smith, MD, Research Professor, State University of New York at Albany, former New York State Epidemiologist
Perry Smith is a research professor at the School of Public Health, State University of New York at Albany, and a public health epidemiology consultant. He served as State Epidemiologist and Director of the Division of Epidemiology at the New York State Department of Health from 1996 to 2010. He has been active in national surveillance through his work with the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, where he has served as president among other roles. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and trained in CDC’s Epidemiology Intelligence Service and Preventive Medicine Residency.

Shandy Dearth, MPH, Administer, Epidemiology Department, Marion County Public Health Department Shandy concentrates on health informatics and emergency preparedness, including outbreak investigations, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She manages epidemiologists and SAS programmers who focus on maternal and child health, communicable diseases including HIV and other STDs, environmental health, refugee health and syndromic surveillance.
Melissa McMasters, RN, Coordinator of the Infectious Disease and Immunization Program, Marion County Public Health Department
Melissa oversees the investigation of reportable diseases and outbreaks and advises on immunization policy to other healthcare professionals throughout Marion County. Prior to this, she worked as a Nurse Epidemiologist in the Immunization Program investigating vaccine-preventable diseases. Melissa has worked in public health for over 15 years.

Kathleen Kimball-Baker, Director, Public Health Practices, Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), University of Minnesota
Kathleen Kimball-Baker is Director of the Public Health Practices Project, a national online practice exchange for emergency preparedness and response professionals. She joined CIDRAP in 2006 to help launch and grow an information service designed to help businesses prepare for and respond to an influenza pandemic. She is an editorial entrepreneur who has spent the bulk of her career developing content that leads to real-world action in public health, medicine, and business.
